Simcoe North Coronavirus (Covid 19) Media Advisory

Given the ongoing situation with COVID19 and the necessity for all of us to take urgent actions to stop the spread of this virus, Bruce Stanton, M.P. for Simcoe North has decided to make scheduling changes for the following public events in order to reduce the risk of potential transmission of COVID-19 in our community. Where possible, these events will be re-scheduled for later in the year:

  • Orillia Spring Shamrock Skate – Tuesday, March 17, 2020
  • Coldwater Passport Clinic – Wednesday, March 18, 2020
  • Ramara Passport Clinic – Wednesday, April 8, 2020
  • Midland Feast for Learning – Friday, April 17, 2020

It was also announced today that, as a preventative measure, the next two scheduled sitting weeks for the House of Commons have been suspended until April 20th, 2020. Bruce wishes to assure Simcoe North residents that he will work in our riding in the weeks ahead, as we confront this virus and carry on with our lives in as orderly and normal way as possible.  In an effort to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus however, Bruce and his staff will be avoiding all large gatherings of people and keeping a social distance of about 2 metres or more where possible.

Constituency offices in Orillia and Midland will remain open; however, in keeping with the recommendations of social distancing, we encourage constituents to call or email office staff with inquires and only visit in person if necessary. Further information and contact details may be found on Bruce’s MP  web site.

We wish to stress that if someone feels they are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms we encourage them stay home and treat it as they would any similar symptoms in the past. If the illness becomes worse, they should contact their physician or public health officials by phone on best steps to protect their health.  We encourage all residents to read and follow the guidelines provided by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on how to protect themselves and others.

According to Mr. Stanton “I encourage everyone to heed the public health unit warnings and Health Canada Updates for current information. Further information of importance as it becomes available will also be posted to my web site and Facebook Page. We can weather this pandemic if we all pitch in.”
