Covid-19 One-Time Payment For Seniors

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government will issue a one-time payment for seniors to
help them cover the increased costs caused by the pandemic. Payments will be issued starting the week of
July 6, 2020. The payment will be issued in the same manner as the recipient’s OAS monthly benefits but will be sent as a separate direct deposit or cheque.
No application is required. Individuals who are eligible to receive the OAS pension or an income-tested benefit in June 2020 will receive one payment:
- OAS pension recipients will receive $300. This includes non-resident and partial pension recipients.
- Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) recipients will receive an additional $200 (for a total payment of $500).
- Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor recipients will receive $500.
A separate payment will be made to each member of a married or common-law couple if eligible. The payment is non-taxable. No taxes will be withheld and no tax slip will be issued. The individual does not need to report the payment
on their 2020 tax return. Any withholds on OAS or income-tested benefits (such as recovery tax, garnishment or statutory set-off) will not affect entitlement to the full amount of the payment.
