MP Stanton was pleased to attend the Canada Health Infoway Public Health Social Media Challenge Awards on December 2, 2014 at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. Along with Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health, Eve Adams, MP Stanton helped present Dr. Charles Gardner, Chief Medical Officer of the Health Unit, with the Judges’ Award for Innovation and their cash award.
The Health Unit won the award for their “Talk Sex with a Nurse” campaign. It was their first, social media based campaign to connect with a specific segment of the population in the district that may be at risk from a public health perspective. They receive a $10,000 cash award for this achievement.
MP Stanton commented, “I was pleased to congratulate Dr. Gardner and team leader, Jillian Fenik, on their innovative work with social media to address health concerns facing our community. This will surely help the Health Unit to build on their communications and outreach activities in the digital realm – to inform people in our region regarding health risks and disease prevention.”
