Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton today announced Government of Canada funding support for the Friends of the Keewatin of $480,000 toward their $1.1-million project from the Canada 150 fund. Dredging and the removal of old debris will be required before Skyline International Development — which, in 2013, purchased the liner that used to carry freight and passengers — can begin working with Tay on parks and sidewalks in the area.

“They want to do some more advanced renovations to help attract more visitors, but before they can do anything else, they’ve got to repair the pier, the dock area, that’s next to the Keewatin,” Stanton said.

Work on the project is expected to begin in Fall 2015.
